Chapter 11: Drawing Shapes



1)  Types of Shapes using Shape Tools

  • Clipping mask - act like a cookie cutter
  • Path shape - create path like the one in pen tool
  • Fill shape - created with pixel

3) Using Text as a Clipping Mask

    Type mask :- can be used to add a gradient fill to text.
                        :-  a selection in the shape of type that can be filled.

Chapter 6 & 7 : Working with Layers and Layers Style


1) Functions of Layers 

   (i)  create composite images
   (ii) create complex projects
   (iii) correct color
   (iv) add special effects
   (v) repair photos

  

2) 5 Types of Layers Merging & Flattening Layers

   (a) Normal layers          : added on top of the current layer
   (b) Adjustment layers   :  modify an image without affecting the original pixels
   (c) Layer mask              : protects area of layers
   (d) Shape layers            : contain vector shape
   (e) Type layers              : contain text elements

 3) Merging & Flattening Layers 

      Merging            -  combining two or more layers
      Flattening         - merges all layers in a document with the purpose of optimizing the file size
      Linked layers   - move together as one unit
      

4) Layers Style

            Layer styles add special effects to an image
            Several options are available for different layer styles

Chapter 4 & 5: Marking And Manipulating Selections

 

1) Marquee Tool


2) Lasso Tool

   (a) Polygonal Lasso Tool  : creates straight sided selections around objects by clicking the objects                                                   edges  

  (b) Magnetic Lasso Tool    : tracks the edges of the object based on shifts in color or tone

  (c) Lasso Tool                    : create tracing based on freehand tracing



3) Transforming Selections 

  (a) Scale                : changes the size of a selection.
  (b) Rotate              : will spin a selection
  (c) Skew/Distort   : stretches and pulls a section
  (d) Perspective     : simulates object meeting at a horizon line
  (e) Flipping          : turns a selection on its vertical or horizontal axis


4) Saving & Loading Selections 

       Channels :- Black and White image contain one color channel 
                        - An RGB image contains 4 channels
                        - A  CMYK  image contains 5 channels
